On Saturday 23rd January, what should have been officially the hottest day of this year, Ann and Lorraine attended a PlaceStories workshop at the Felton Hall. This workshop was facilitated by Kevin Guy from FeralArts and hosted by the Friends of Felton. We had a very informative day spent with old and new friends learning how to create PlaceStories - a user-generated map based digital storytelling and communications system. With 9 participants we managed to create 4 stories which are now on display at http://sandbox.placestories.com/project?id=2000052 another one is on it's way soon. Our stories were all very different, very personal and each conveyed a different aspect of the impact of proposed mining in the Felton Valley, a close-knit farming community 30km south-west of Toowoomba. For more information see http://www.fof.org.au/ . PlaceStories is yet another tool which can be used to assist communities in having a voice. Ann and Lorraine felt it was a worthwhile exercise to learn this software program and aim to assist others in the production of further stories using this method. Thanks again to all of our participants and Kevin Guy our trainer/facilitator for a wonderful day - next time though.....airconditioning would be great!!
